Vivid Sydney is one of the biggest celebrations of light, music, and ideas in Australia, and if you happen to be on your Sydney tours during it, you’re going to want to check in.
Featuring a unique outdoor gallery space with an incredible array of lighting sculptures, a state-of-the-art music program and some of the most exciting talks about ideas, the event is a must-visit for creatives and those looking to explore the cultural side of the city – but it’s well worth the visit alone just to see the iconic Sydney Opera House lit up.
Taking place between the 26th May and the 17thJune this year, the winter event is an annual occurrence that gets bigger every year. The focal point of this years’ event, just like the previous years, are the projections that transform some of the city’s best-loved buildings into artistic wonders. Expect to see the likes of the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, and buildings in Sydney’s central business district lit up in exciting ways.
This year, there is more fun to be had than ever, with a whole host of new events and programs running alongside the central illuminations. Here are some of the new additions to keep a look out for this year.
Hidden Sydney – The Glittering Mile
This year, new venue Kings Cross brings an exciting addition to the party. To the east of the city, you can experience even more lights, theatre and music as you step back in time with Hidden Sydney. It’s an immersive theatre experience that were first showcased in 2016 as part of Art & About. Snap up tickets fast if you want to get in on this one.

Barangaroo
The Vivid Light Walk is one of the highlights of the Vivid Sydney experience. Wandering the streets looking for quirky lit-up artworks is hungry work, so Barangaroo opens its doors as a foodie hotspot. You can discover interactive installations before tucking into some delicious local food.
