Known locally as Straddie, or North Straddie, North Stradbroke Island sits in the picturesque surrounds of Moreton Bay in Queensland just 30 minutes off the coast of the capital, Brisbane.
Filled with beautiful natural lakes, pristine beaches, and lush scenery, you can explore everything the island has to offer and more on our North Stradbroke Island Tour.
We start the day by making our way across Moreton Bay, where you can enjoy stunning views of the island and its surroundings which give you a preview of the beauty that’s still to come.
Our first stop when we reach the island is Brown Lake. This naturally created lake is made brown by the tannin in the leaves that fall in it giving it a unique colour. Here, you can kick back and relax on the pristine beaches that surround the lake and marvel at the unique landscape and colours.
Once you’ve relaxed at the lake, it’s time to take a walk around the North Gorge to get to know the island a bit better. You’ll get to see more of Stradbroke’s wildest scenery which is characterised by exotic plant species and an eclectic selection of wildlife.
As you go, keep your eyes peeled for native creatures like colonies of koalas and kangaroos and, when you’re near the shoreline, keep a lookout for dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays, and other incredible marine life.
Afterwards, it’s onto Point Lookout, where, if you’re lucky, you can spot the majestic Humpback Whales as they frolic in the bay. From the excellent vantage point, you can gaze out at the stunning scenery of the island and enjoy panoramic views of the vicinity. Then it’s time to check out some of the island’s most popular spots, including Cylinder, Frenchman’s, and Main Beaches, as well as the pretty and historic town of Dunwich and the quaint fishing village of Amity.
We’ll spend a bit of time on Cylinder Beach so you can take refreshing dip in the crystal clear waters before we move onto Myora Springs. While in this natural hotspot, you can learn all about the battle that took place on the island between the Aborigines and the military while you dig deep into the cultural history of your surroundings.
This is the last stop on the tour before we head back to Brisbane, but you’ll have plenty of memories from your time on the island.
