Australia’s Northern Territory is a haven of culture and adventure for every kind of traveller, and the vast expanse of night sky, with its glittering stars, makes it the perfect place to camp out and soak up the incredible swathes of nature that characterise it.
The exhibition is set in the heart of the Northern Territory and is made up of 50,000 solar-powered stems that cast a surreal and magical glow across the red scenery that surround them. Dubbed Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku, which translates as “looking at lots of beautiful lights” in the local Pitjantjatjara tongue, it ties in with the vast scenery that flanks it and adds a new cultural dimension to the area.
The sheer scale of the installation is breath-taking. Combine that with the magnificent landscape that Uluru sits amongst and you have a mind-blowing encounter on your hands.
This is Munro’s largest Field of Light installation to date, with the coloured stems spanning an area that is the same size as four football fields – pretty impressive, right?
Having won numerous awards, the exhibition is now having its second showing, and it is bigger and better than ever. It opened back in April and has blown all expectations out of the window, drawing in thousands and thousands of people who want to experience Uluru and the Red Centre in a different way.
So, if you find yourself exploring the vast plains of the Red Centre, gazing out over the lush desert scenery, and dipping into the colourful Aboriginal past of the region, make sure you plan a trip to see the Field of Light installation, too. While there, you can marvel at Uluru lit up in a new and exciting way, and enjoy the moment where ancient natural beauty meets modern day art – it really is a sight to behold.The show will run until March next year, so you have plenty of time to get yourself over to Uluru and see it while it’s still on.
