Kakadu opens its arms to visitors throughout the year, and our 2-Day Kakadu 4WD Safari Tour lets you explore everything it has to offer in a unique adventure. Across the two days, you’ll get to hike through spectacular scenery, swim in refreshing pools, discover magical waterfalls, and learn more about the fascinating natural history of the region. On the first day, we’ll take you from Darwin to the Corroboree Tavern which has been in business since the 1980s. Here, you can meet Brutus, a four metre saltwater crocodile amongst other, exciting native creatures.
Then it’s on to the Bark Hut Inn before we take you to check out the Magnetic Termite Mounds in the depths of Litchfield National Park. While here, you’ll have the chance to wander the boardwalk that weaves through the mounds and discover more about these natural architectural wonders.
Afterwards, it’s on to White Lilly Billabong to soak up the unique collection of birdlife and tuck into a delicious picnic. Once lunch is done, we’ll take you to Maguk, or Barramundi Gorge. There are some spectacular plunge pools to cool off in here. In the afternoon, we’ll head to Nourlangie, where you can learn about the fascinating Aboriginal history of the region through the ancient rock art and dreamtime stories. Before we bed down for the night, we’ll make a quick pitstop at Yellow Water Billabong, which is home to a third of Australia’s birdlife. Then it’s on to Jim Jim Campground for a BBQ dinner and a good night’s sleep.
The second day starts with a visit to Nuwurlandja Lookout for some excellent views across the cultural landscape before we move on to Ubirr. This is a hotspot filled with Aboriginal rock art and amazing views of the surrounding scenery.
In keeping with the cultural theme, we’ll then head to the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre to browse interactive displays and check out the local arts and crafts. In the afternoon, we’ll make our way to Yurmikmik for a hike through the lush rainforest, stopping off at landmarks like Boulder Creek and Kurrundie Creek. Finally, it’s on to the Bowali VisitorCentre to learn more about the natural history of Kakadu before we head back to Darwin at around 6pm in the evening.
This all-round tour of Kakadu gives you the perfect mix of nature, history, and culture as you learn more about this fascinating region.
